Notes From the Field

Happy Birthday to Zoe!

I think my body just decided to melt into a char when granted the opportunity to sit and relax at the end of the day.  The wind is picking up and swooping down from the North and Northwest; we are no long in transition this week, we are living in the fall season.  Here it is.

We are in Week 14!  Notice a difference!??!  The season's bag has evolved from abundant green growth to colorful roots, sweep peppers, and fruits - how amazing!

The variety of sweet Italian peppers you are receiving are called Carmens, a noted favorite by many growers and consumers.  You are also receiving a delicata winter squash - once you've roasted this sweet frient (or pan-sauteed with kale) whoever you share the meal with may want to challenge you for your last bite (no foolin')

What's in the Bag

  • Mesculin salad mix
  • 1 bunch kale
  • 3 purple carrots
  • Green beans
  • 1 red onion or 2 small
  • 1 Delicata winter squash
  • 1 Carmen sweet pepper

One of the very delicious parts of fall is that cooler growing conditions offer slower saturation of sugar for plan growth - meaning the food is more sweet, the "bitterness" of kale is no longer!

Enjoy everything!  Many thanks for your outstanding participation every week!

All the best,

Dig Deep
